Ceremony at the Beach Gazebo

The couple chose to hold their symbolic ceremony at the Beach Gazebo, one of the most picturesque locations at Dreams Playa Mujeres. Nestled right on the sand, the gazebo offers breathtaking ocean views while still giving a bit of shade and structure—ideal for couples who want that “toes in the sand” feeling without battling the sun or wind.

This setting strikes the perfect balance between natural beauty and comfort. The gazebo was lined with elegant floral arrangements, and the sound of waves created an organic soundtrack to their vows. Despite a rain scare earlier in the day, the skies cleared just in time, and a rainbow even appeared as the ceremony began. It was one of those unforgettable, serendipitous destination wedding moments you just can’t plan for.

Cocktail Hour with a View

Following the emotional ceremony at the Beach Gazebo, guests were treated to a cocktail hour overlooking the ocean—a perfect transition between "I do" and the party to follow. The resort set up a dedicated audio system for background music, creating a relaxed and inviting vibe.

Signature drinks, including the couple’s choices of Espresso Martinis and Mojitos, were served alongside light bites. This gave guests time to mingle, snap photos, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while the couple took portraits. The timing and setting of the cocktail hour allowed the wedding team to flip the reception space and finalize décor without guests ever feeling like they were waiting.

It was the kind of sunset-soaked pause that makes destination weddings feel so magical—laid-back, scenic, and full of anticipation for the celebration ahead.

Reception at the Central Garden

After the ceremony, guests made their way to the Central Garden, one of the resort’s most versatile reception spaces. This lush outdoor venue offers both intimacy and ample space for dancing, dining, and celebrating.

The couple added a tent with string lights, creating an elegant ambiance that transformed the space into something out of a fairytale. A white vinyl dance floor was brought in for the evening festivities, surrounded by candlelit tables topped with vibrant floral centerpieces. The atmosphere was both romantic and lively, with plenty of room for guests to eat, drink, and—eventually—lift the groom, DJ, and bartenders into the air on the dance floor!

Welcome Party on the Beach

One of the highlights of this wedding weekend was the welcome party, which took place the night before the ceremony. This casual-yet-thoughtful event is something we recommend for most destination weddings—especially when guests are traveling far and may not know each other well.

Held right on the beach, the welcome party featured:

  • A full taco bar with all the fixings

  • Open bar service with tropical cocktails and signature drinks

  • Live music by a mariachi trio (for the first 45 minutes)

  • Beachfront seating and mingling with a custom sound system for background music

This laid-back evening gave guests a chance to unwind, mingle, and enjoy the setting before the big day. The couple also used this time to allow a few special guests to give speeches that wouldn’t fit into the ceremony or reception timeline—creating space for more personal moments without overcrowding the wedding day itself.

Planning Tips from Our Team

As the couple’s travel agency, we supported them with resort coordination, guest travel, and event logistics. Here are some valuable insights we gathered from this wedding:

Communication

The resort’s wedding team is great, but communication can be delayed. You can schedule calls and use a visual design guide to keep everyone aligned. The wedding team is truly talented and ultimately they will execute the wedding day of your dreams, but you will not receive constant communication throughout the entirety of your planning year so this is something to be mindful of prior to booking your date.

Be Flexible

Weather, timing, and setup changes happen. Destination weddings require a little flexibility—but with the right mindset, it’s easy to embrace the adventure.

Personal Touches Matter

From signature cocktails to custom signs and welcome gifts, these small details go a long way in making your celebration feel personal—even at an all-inclusive resort.
